Kurt Fiala

Kurt Fiala was born on July 6, 1929, in Vienna, where he also grew up. His youth is not well documented, but as an artist, he became part of the circle surrounding Albert Paris Gütersloh, the founding father of the Vienna School of Fantastic Realism, who initially referred to the movement as „Phantasmagoria.“ Fiala’s well-known works all date from after 1950 and exclusively depict surreal themes. He belongs to the later group of fantastic realists, alongside representatives such as Kurt Regschek, Franz Luby, and the young Leherb. His artworks have been showcased in a number of thematic exhibitions in cities like Vienna, Bregenz, Paris, and Berlin. Kurt Fiala passed away in Vienna in 1969.
