Albert WUNDERLICH

Albert Wunderlich (*August 3, 1867 in Geislingen an der Steige; †July 22, 1946 in Stuttgart) was a Swabian landscape painter whose works mainly comprise views of Württemberg and neighboring regions. Although there is no comprehensive catalog raisonné of his work to date, his contribution to southern German painting has become particularly well known through regional exhibitions.

Wunderlich was born as the son of the head bailiff Hermann Wunderlich and his wife Klara Beate, née Löflund. He married Helene Kleinlein in Heidelberg on June 4, 1898. He lived and worked mainly in Stuttgart until his death. After starting out as a businessman with his own agency business, Wunderlich increasingly turned to painting from 1941 onwards, which is also reflected in the last editions of the Stuttgart address book before the end of the war, where he is listed exclusively as an “art painter”.

As a member of the Württembergischer Kunstverein, Wunderlich was actively involved in the association’s exhibitions as well as those of other art associations. Some of his works were first shown at the Heidelberger Kunstverein in 1904, and he exhibited there again in 1906. In Stuttgart, his work “Gewitterschwüle” was presented at the Württembergischer Kunstverein in November 1906.
