Elise Göbeler

Elise Goebeler (also spelled Göbeler; * May 6, 1847, in Bad Freienwalde; † February 21, 1913, in Berlin-Wilmersdorf) was a German portrait and genre painter. She studied from 1870 to 1872 under Carl Steffeck in Berlin and from 1896 to 1898 under Wilhelm Dürr the Younger in Munich.

Her work Cinderella (Aschenputtel), exhibited in Berlin in 1880, was acquired by the Imperial Art Collections. In the same year, she also exhibited Young Girl with Willow Blossoms and Neapolitan Water Seller. The painting Sleeping Beauty with the Old Spinner, created in 1881, appeared on the cover of the Illustrirten Zeitung. In Berlin, she displayed Vanitas, Vanitatum Vanitas and Net Weavers in 1887, and Cheerfulness in 1897. The Elegy, exhibited in the Munich Glass Palace in 1899, was highly praised by art critics.

She traveled to Italy between 1883 and 1887. In 1906, she opened her own student studio in Berlin and was a member of the Association of Berlin Women Artists.
