Ernst Ludwig Ostermayer
Ernst Ludwig Ostermayer (born December 3, 1868, in Weilheim an der Teck; died May 19, 1918, on the Western Front) was a German portrait and equine painter as well as a landscape photographer. Ostermayer initially studied painting at the Grand Ducal Baden Art School in Karlsruhe and continued his education at the Académie Julian in Paris. He furthered his studies with Franz Roubaud in Munich and Robert von Haug in Stuttgart.
From 1903 onward, Ostermayer lived and worked in Munich, focusing on portrait and equine painting as well as landscape photography. He was also known for his work as a writer. During World War I, he served as a war artist and was killed on the Western Front in 1918.
