Hugo Stadelmaier

Hugo Stadelmaier (July 14, 1901, in Schwäbisch Gmünd – May 31, 1979, in Schwäbisch Gmünd) was a Swabian painter and graphic artist. He began his studies in 1921 at the Stuttgart Academy of Fine Arts, where he learned from Christian Landenberger, Alexander Eckener, and Christian Speyer. From 1925 to 1928, he continued his studies at the United State Schools for Fine and Applied Arts in Berlin-Charlottenburg, studying under Erich Wolfsfeld and Fritz Klimsch. After his studies, he undertook a journey to Spain from 1928 to 1930. Stadelmaier was represented in the 1927 anniversary exhibition of the Württemberg Art Association. He worked in Schwäbisch Gmünd and participated in the exhibition “South German Art in Munich” at the Neue Pinakothek in 1934. He also worked as an art educator until 1966. Further study trips took him to Holland and France. Among his works are illustrations for The Fiddler of Gmünd by Justinus Kerner (1923, Tübingen).
