Simon Hohenegger
Simon Hohenegger (January 13, 1898 – May 21, 1990) was a German painter born in Dachau. He was the eldest of four children born to Simon Hohenegger and his wife Magdalena. His father worked as a laborer, while his mother was a homemaker. After attending elementary school, he completed an apprenticeship as a painter. In 1928, Simon Hohenegger married Sofie Hartmann, and they had a son, Alfred Hohenegger (*1928), who became a notable painter and has lived in Rome since 1954.
Hohenegger, who displayed his artistic talent from a young age, was largely self-taught. He produced numerous oil paintings, often favoring smaller formats, depicting scenes from the Dachau landscape. His use of color is marked by clear accents and sometimes stark contrasts, yet these colors work harmoniously to unify the overall composition. He is particularly admired for his depictions of skies and cloud formations.
