Josef Franz Renner
Josef Franz Renner (1886 in Graslitz, Bohemia – 1957 in Vienna) was an influential Austrian painter and graphic artist. He studied at the Academy of Applied Arts in Vienna, where he was influenced by the renowned Koloman Moser. Renner later became a professor at the Federal College and Research Institute for Graphics in Vienna. His work spanned landscape and portrait painting, as well as mural decorations, certificates, and postage stamp designs. Additionally, he contributed as an illustrator for newspapers in Austria and Germany. Among his notable achievements are his designs for the 500-Schilling banknote (1953) and the 100-Schilling banknote (1954), which earned him significant recognition.
