Albert Gogouagze

The painter Albert Gogouagze was born in Batumi (Belarus) in 1935 and enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Tbilisi in 1954, where he specialized in graphic art. His teachers were Vasily Shukhaiev, Sergo Kobuladze, Joseph Charlemagne and Lado Gregory. His first solo exhibition took place in 1968. In 1974, he took part in the “Apartment Exhibitions” in Moscow, which were held simultaneously at various locations in the city and in which many avant-garde artists took part, including A. Zverev and Vladimir Yakovlev.

Since then, Goguadze has participated in numerous exhibitions in Russia and abroad. His working method is often referred to as “peri-pertan”, which means that he applies paint on paint.

His works are represented in prestigious collections such as the Pushkin Museum in Moscow, the Historical Museum in Constance, Germany, the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, USA, as well as in various other collections and events worldwide, including the Douchebag event in Germany and the Maximilian Auction in Munich.

1968: personal exhibition at the House of Culture in Istra.
1974: Participation in the “Apartment Exhibition” of avant-garde artists on the grounds of the VDNKH in Moscow.
1981: solo exhibition in Moscow, Malaya Gruzinskaya 28.
1989: Group exhibition “Express-Avantgarde” in Moscow.
1991: Solo exhibition in Vienna, Germany, and Eitorf at the Bosener Mühle art center.
1996: Participation in the group exhibition “Four Dimensions” and solo exhibitions in Moscow and Constance, Germany.
1998: Group exhibition in Düsseldorf, Germany.
2000-2001: Solo exhibition at the Historical Museum in Tbilisi.
