Babs ENGLAENDER

Barbara Englaender, often affectionately known as “Babs” and later as Barbara Hartmann, was born on July 24, 1922 in Berga/Elster. She is a renowned German painter and draughtswoman.

Englaender received her artistic training at the renowned Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, where she studied under the guidance of Franz Klemmer. She is a proud member of both the Neue Gruppe and the Deutscher Künstlerbund. From 1955, she regularly presented her works at the Great Art Exhibition at the Haus der Kunst.

Englaender’s work mainly consists of watercolors and pencil drawings. Her sensitive depictions of her own animals, which she keeps at the idyllic Gockelhof farm in Rottach-Egern, are particularly well-known.

Barbara Englaender was married to the painter Adolf Hartmann, and her life and work are characterized by a deep connection with nature and a love of the animal world.
