Carl Becker

Carl Becker was born in Karlsruhe on January 29, 1862 and died in Gengenbach before 1935. He was a German painter who specialized in portraits, genre paintings and illustrations in the field of military art.

Becker received his training at the Grand Ducal Baden School of Art in Karlsruhe, where he studied painting under Karl Heinrich Hoff the Elder. His career as a military painter began in Berlin and continued in Munich from 1899. In 1894, he worked together with Karl Kehr (1866-1919) and Friedrich Kallmorgen on the panorama “The Storming of Nuits”. From 1919 he lived in Gengenbach near Offenburg in Baden. In addition to his painting, Becker also worked for the Illustrirte Zeitung in Leipzig.
