Fred Fay

Fred Fay was born in Basel on July 7, 1901. From an early age, he was influenced by his father, a painting restorer, who taught him the basics of painting techniques and materials. He deepened his interest in art by studying in Geneva, where his family had moved in the meantime. In 1922, he continued his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, followed by stays in Berlin and Stuttgart in 1923.
From 1926, Fay began his artistic activities in Valais, which he visited regularly and which eventually became the center of his work. In 1949, he founded the Valais School of Design in Saxon. His curiosity and urge for artistic exploration led him tirelessly through Greece, Spain and numerous cities along the Mediterranean.
Fred Fay died on June 1, 1987 in Sion, a place that was closely associated with his artistic work.
