Georg Fürst

Geo Fürst, a German landscape and marine painter, draughtsman, photographer and author, was born in Nuremberg in 1888 and died in Munich in 1964. He was largely a self-taught artist. He initially lived in La Valletta on Malta, where he was interned during the First World War. There he met Fritz Leopold Henning-Danzig (1895-1951), who taught him oil painting.

After the First World War, Fürst continued his artistic development at Moritz Heymann’s painting school in Munich. Until 1938, he regularly spent the winter months in Malta, where he also worked as a German teacher, including for Lord Louis Mountbatten. From 1938, he lived permanently in Munich.

Geo Fürst undertook study trips to Spain, Corsica, Dalmatia, England, Italy, North America and Africa, which had a significant influence on his artistic development. He was a member of the Feldgrauen Künstlerbund München and was mainly active as an artist in Munich.
