Georg HAMBÜCHEN

Georg Hambüchen (1901-1971) was a German painter of the Düsseldorf School, specializing in landscape, marine and portrait painting.

Born in Düsseldorf, Hambüchen was the son of the landscape and marine painter Wilhelm Hambüchen. Traveling with his father to Nieuwpoort and Katwijk, he developed a passion for maritime motifs at an early age and met artists such as Eugen Kampf and Helmuth Liesegang. At the age of 15, he began his training at the Kunstgewerbeschule Düsseldorf and continued his studies at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf from 1918 to 1923. From 1921 he was a master student of Carl Ederer. Like his father, Georg Hambüchen was also a member of the Malkasten artists’ association.

Georg Hambüchen was the uncle of the teacher and writer Bernd Hambüchen, born in 1940.
