Hermann Drost

Hermann Drost (1912-2006) was a German artist and painter. He was born in Berlin-Charlottenburg in 1912. Hermann Drost’s many years of residence in the Allgäu, including in Mauerstetten near Kaufbeuren, were characterized by his extensive artistic work. Hermann Drost was an academic painter and restorer who left his mark on the creative universe until his death in 2006.

His artistic vision was characterized by its independence from current fashion trends. Drost was known for his openness to incorporate critical thoughts and opinions into his art.

His education took him from the State School of Fine and Applied Arts to the Berlin Academy of Arts, where he was inspired by Prof. Lenk and Prof. Wehlke. At this renowned institution, he was awarded the Berlin University Prize. He also devoted himself to restoration as a freelancer for the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Monuments.
