Imre Reiner

Imre Reiner was born on August 18, 1900 in Versec in the Kingdom of Hungary and died on August 22, 1987 near Lugano in Switzerland. He was an outstanding Hungarian-Swiss painter, graphic artist, book designer and important type designer.

Imre Reiner began his artistic training at the State Sculpture School in Zalatna and continued it at the School of Applied Arts in Frankfurt am Main. From 1921, he studied under Friedrich Hermann Ernst Schneidler at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Stuttgart. During his studies in Weimar, he crossed paths with Paul Klee several times. After graduating, he worked as a graphic artist in various cities such as London, New York, Chicago and Paris from 1923 to 1927. After returning to Stuttgart, he continued his studies, this time as a master student of Friedrich Hermann Ernst Schneidler.

Imre Reiner settled in Paris in 1930, but just one year later he moved to Ruvigliana near Lugano in Ticino, Switzerland. From then on, he devoted himself to his work as a painter, graphic artist, typographer and illustrator.
