Jacques le Roux
Jacques le Roux (1923-2010) was a French artist who worked as a painter, illustrator, draughtsman, sculptor and calligrapher. Born in Nice, he spent his childhood in Nice and Nogent-sur-Marne. From 1937, he was supported by the painter Louis Biloule and studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris from 1939 to 1948. Le Roux undertook study trips to Italy, Greece, Spain and the Netherlands.
His parents, who lived in Indochina for a time, awakened his enthusiasm for Asian culture, which, together with South American culture, had a strong influence on his artistic work. Le Roux worked in Chavannes-sur-Ressouze and exhibited his works together with renowned artists such as Picasso and Miró. He played an important role in the development of modern calligraphic writing in France.
