Rudolf Geyling

Rudolf Geyling (born on February 14, 1839 in Vienna, died on July 4, 1904 in Ybbs, Lower Austria) was an Austrian painter. He was the son of the history painter Franz Geyling (1803-1875). From 1856 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna under the teachers Rüben and Wurzinger. In 1872, he received a travel grant for his painting “Hagen und Donaunixen”, which enabled him to spend time in Italy.

After his return to Vienna in 1873, he took over the artistic management of the glass painting company “Carl Geylings Erben” in 1880 following the death of his uncle Carl Geyling, while Alois Löw took over the technical management. At the same time, he became head of the studio for applied arts and painting techniques at the Vienna Frauen-Erwerb-Verein. His important works include designs for stained glass in St. Stephen’s Cathedral and the Maria am Gestade church.
