Walter PRESCHER VAN ED

Walter Prescher van Ed (April 6, 1916 in Dresden – April 11, 1988 in Dickschied) was a German painter.

Prescher van Ed studied at the Dresden Academy of Art, where he was a pupil of Ewald Karl Max Enderlein and Paul Rößler. In 1948 he was awarded the title of professor at the Akademie der Künste in Berlin and subsequently became a full professor at the Kunstakademie Dresden. In 1949, he had a solo exhibition of oil paintings at the renowned Galerie Henning in Halle/Saale. In 1961, he was a visiting professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nancy. He was also honored as an honorary citizen of Montmartre.

Paris, Prague and Dresden were important stations in his life. As a cosmopolitan, he felt particularly at home in his adopted home of Paris. In Prague, he met Oskar Kokoschka, whose master student he became and who helped him achieve his breakthrough. In Paris, he cultivated close friendships with important artists such as Fernand Léger, Jacques Villon, Maurice Utrillo, Jean Cocteau and Karel Appel, who also influenced him and whom he often portrayed.

His late Impressionist paintings made him a well-known name on the art scene at international exhibitions in cities such as New York, Paris, Nancy, Nice, Dresden, Berlin, Munich and Frankfurt.
