He began his studies in 1921 at the Stuttgart Academy of Fine Arts, where he learned from Christian Landenberger, Alexander Eckener, and Christian Speyer. From 1925 to 1928, he continued his studies at the United State Schools for Fine and Applied Arts in Berlin-Charlottenburg, studying under Erich Wolfsfeld and Fritz Klimsch. After his studies, he undertook a journey to Spain from 1928 to 1930. Stadelmaier was represented in the 1927 anniversary exhibition of the W\u00fcrttemberg Art Association. He worked in Schw\u00e4bisch Gm\u00fcnd and participated in the exhibition \"South German Art in Munich\" at the Neue Pinakothek in 1934. He also worked as an art educator until 1966. Further study trips took him to Holland and France.
