He was a painter and draftsman, working as a retoucher (reprographic artist) by profession. Alongside his work, he pursued private studies in painting and settled in Heidelberg in 1912, where he was active. He served in the military during World War I from 1915 to 1918. From 1920 to 1924, he studied at the Kunstakademie Karlsruhe under Albert Haueisen.\n\nIn 1928, he painted a portrait of the art historian Karl Lohmeyer (1878\u20131957), which is now housed in the Kurpf\u00e4lzisches Museum in Heidelberg. W\u00fcrtele participated in the \"St\u00e4ndige Kunstausstellung\" in Baden-Baden in 1934 and 1936. In 1941, he took part in the \"Oberrheinische Kunstausstellung\" at the Kunsthalle Baden-Baden. In 1945, he was involved in the exhibition \"Badische K\u00fcnstler \u2013 Maler, Graphiker und Bildhauer aus Nordbaden\" at the Kunstverein Karlsruhe, which was the first exhibition in Karlsruhe after the war.
