He was the son of the history painter Franz Geyling (1803-1875). From 1856 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna under the teachers R\u00fcben and Wurzinger. In 1872, he received a travel grant for his painting \u201cHagen und Donaunixen\u201d, which enabled him to spend time in Italy.\n\nAfter his return to Vienna in 1873, he took over the artistic management of the glass painting company \u201cCarl Geylings Erben\u201d in 1880 following the death of his uncle Carl Geyling, while Alois L\u00f6w took over the technical management. At the same time, he became head of the studio for applied arts and painting techniques at the Vienna Frauen-Erwerb-Verein.
