Peter Emil Recher

Peter Emil Recher was born on June 29, 1879 in Heilbronn and died on May 26, 1948 in Urfeld. He was a renowned German lithographer and painter whose works were primarily influenced by the Impressionists and captured the majestic alpine landscape of Switzerland and Bavaria.
Recher, the son of a Swiss father and a Baden mother, trained as a lithographer after leaving school. He then studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart from 1904. His passion for art took him on study trips through various countries in Western and Southern Europe and North Africa before he finally settled in Lisbon. There he was appointed professor at the Escola Academica in 1910.
After three years, Recher returned to Germany and settled as a freelance painter in Urfeld am Walchensee. There he met Hermine Kellermann, the daughter of the academy professor and court pianist Berthold Kellermann. The two married on July 7, 1914 and lived in Munich from 1915 to 1919 before finally settling in Feldbach on Lake Zurich.
