Carl Blum

Carl Blum was born in Freiburg on November 1, 1888 and died in Balingen on December 31, 1953. He began his studies at the Karlsruhe Art Academy around 1910 under renowned teachers such as Ludwig Dill, Wilhelm Trübner and Hans Thoma. During the First World War, he served from 1914 to 1918 and was wounded.

Blum was a member of the artists’ group “Zunft zur Arche” in Karlsruhe and took part in the group’s exhibitions between 1931 and 1934. In 1934, he also took part in the exhibition “South German Art in Munich” at the Neue Pinakothek.

In 1940, he settled permanently in Balingen, having previously spent the summer months there. From 1942 to 1943, he taught drawing at the Oberrealschule.
